Claire Jamieson

Overview

Claire Jamieson runs the Critical and Contextual Studies component on the BA Architecture and BA Interior Architecture and Design courses in the School of Creative Arts, leading modules across all three levels of the course. She is a member of the TVAD Research Group.

She is on the Editorial Board of the peer-reviewed journal Architectural Histories and is on the Steering Group for Building Futures, the think-tank of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Claire gained her PhD from the Royal College of Art in 2014 and published her thesis with Routledge in 2017, titled NATØ: Narrative Architecture in Postmodern London.

Research interests

Claire is an architecturally-trained architectural historian, with a focus on the twentieth century. She has a particular interest in postmodern architecture and the period 1960-2000, and radical practices. In addition, she has broader interests in architectural drawing, architectural models, architectural exhibitions and architectural publishing – particularly 'little magazines' and self-published zines. Claire is also interested in the relationship between the history of architecture and the history of design, particularly where 'place' related themes and issues shape narratives of design. London has formed a backdrop to her most recent research, exploring the relationship between the form of the city during a particular period and the creative practices that take place within it.
